Only about 30 kms away from the crowded Hill station town of Darjeeling is the quiet hamlet of 11 houses, surrounded by high pine forests and tea gardens with the backdrop of the mighty snow-capped Mt.Khangchendzonga range. Clubbed with this is the extraordinary sunrise which would be a close match to the legendary Tiger Hill. The village is isolated and families prefer to live their basic life in the hill forests. It was in 1995-96, Help Tourism had initiated Rural Tourism in the Kolbong area of Tinchulay along with WWF-India (Project SERVE), and kept on adding to the Teesta Eco-Region as Chota Mangwa, Bara Mangwa and Takdah in years to follow. Today, the rural tourism initiative has been able to confirm organic agriculture, meaningful engagement of the youths, conservation of Heritage and above all Peace in the area.
The best place still remained to be explored, the best located village at the highest point, Royak Forest Village, where Help Tourism has recently initiated the Tinchulay Homestay with 04 rooms only, along with the Forest Department contributing to 04 more homestay rooms, 01 each with 04 families. The forest trail and tea garden trail are the exclusive activities for the visitors to this village, along with the option of learning different ‘local Himalayan recipes’. This is an exclusive place for bird and butterfly enthusiasts. Darjeeling sightseeing and toy train (DHR) ride can easily be organized from this village. Lamahatta, Tinchulay-Takdah and Lopchu are next door. The driving time from Siliguri or Gangtok is hardly two and a half hours and Kalimpong is day sightseeing. Altitude is about 5000 ft and is all year round destination. http://tinchuleyroyak.com/
